Summary

Pierce Mortuary Colleges (PMC) is seeking several candidates to serve as a part-time online instructor (adjunct) for the Associate of Applied Science Degree in Funeral Service Program. The adjunct instructor will facilitate courses online.  Instructors working remotely may be considered. Under general supervision, this individual will plan and implement curriculum and educational courses; communicate class content to students in an online environment so that learning occurs; evaluate students’ progress in attaining goals, objectives, and student learning outcomes; assist in retention efforts. This position requires day, night, evening, and online instruction. This position is part-time/non-exempt.

Reports to: Campus President

Duties and Responsibilities:

· Develops course syllabus for each course assigned based on the Dallas Institute of Funeral Service and Pierce Colleges criteria.  The syllabus will include learning objectives expressed in behavioral terms.

·Distribute the syllabus to campus administration and enrolled online students.

· Instructs the depth and scope of class materials as outlined in the syllabus and catalog, relates instruction to careers and employee satisfaction and standards.

· Prepare and grade exams based on course objectives and published scheduled exams, and returns all assignments/graded work in a timely manner.

·Implements evaluation of outcomes assessments and achieves established results while maintaining college standards and student satisfaction.

· Work creatively in all assigned courses to keep students engaged online which will increase student retention.

·Provide tutorial assistance and academic advising for all students when needed.

·Submit online midterm and final grades at the appropriate time of the quarter.

· Perform additional job-related duties as assigned.

Job Requirements for Non-Funeral Service Courses:

·Bachelor degree required from a regionally accredited college.  Master degree preferred. Bachelor degree in Funeral Service is a plus.

·   At least eighteen graduate hours in the discipline being taught.

· Experience in teaching in an online LMS format.  Moodle experience a plus.

·         Demonstrated the ability to work successfully with students, staff, and community from diverse backgrounds and commitment to a culturally diverse work environment.

Job Requirements for Funeral Service Courses:

· Graduate of an institution of funeral service education accredited by the American Board of Funeral Service Education (ABSFE).

·  Bachelor degree required from a regionally accredited college.   Master degree preferred. Bachelor degree in Funeral Service is a plus.

·  Hold valid state licenses as a Funeral Director and/or Embalmer. (Required for all funeral service courses)

·  Two years’ experience as a licensed Funeral Director and/or Embalmer. (Preferred)

·   Experience in teaching in an online LMS format.  Moodle experience a plus.

·  Demonstrated the ability to work successfully with students, staff, and community from diverse backgrounds and commitment to a culturally diverse work environment.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

· Evaluate, design and implement a course curriculum, testing and/or teaching methodologies.

· Make administrative and procedural decisions on sensitive/confidential issues.

· Work effectively with diverse populations.

·  Communicate effectively orally, in writing and through an online platform.

·  Experience in teaching methods for the online delivery method of course content.

·Ability to interact with students across several platforms.

· Ability to control the course in the online classroom.

·  Ability to apply relevant current education methodologies and techniques.

·   Ability to gather data, analyze and make informed educational decisions.

Working Conditions:

·  College facility or remote environment

·  Must have internet access and a phone to deploy course content and engage the online student.
